OREGON THEATRE EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION presents
2016 OTEA Professional Development Conference
Friday and Saturday, October 14-15, 2016 – Newport, OR
Who: OTEA – a bunch of theatre educators from around Oregon
What: a day-long conference including a panel discussion and 4 workshop sessions
Where: Newport, Oregon – Elizabeth Street Inn and the Newport Performing Arts Center
When: Friday, October 14, starting at 9:00 a.m., ending Saturday, October 15 at 12:00 noon.
Why: This is Oregon’s only statewide professional development directed solely at theatre educators
How Much: Registration, including lunch on Friday, is $60 for EdTA members/$70 for non-members
The theme this year is “Helping Students Find Their Path To An Arts Career” and we are going to start with a panel discussion on how various professionals found their way to their current career. The panel will include a professional theatre technician, a representative from higher education, a person who earned a degree in theatre/the arts but works in another career (how did his/her arts degree help get him/her there?), and someone who works in arts administration. We are also shooting for the stars and asking a local celebrity who was on everyone’s television weekly for 11 seasons and who now conducts a local symphony orchestra to provide a keynote for us.
To sweeten the pot, it would be a great excuse for you to spend a weekend on the Oregon coast, you could drink wine and toast marshmallows with a lot of fun people, and you could connect and collaborate with theatre educators from around Oregon. Please bring a lesson plan to share with the group.
When booking your room at the Elizabeth Street Inn, use the discount code “OTEA” for conference rates of $97 plus tax per night. A full breakfast buffet is included at the Inn. Call (877) 265-9400 to book your room; the discount code does not work when booking online.
$60 for CURRENT OTEA members
$70 for non-Members
Membership in OTEA is automatic with membership in the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA). There are several ways to become and EdTA Member, whether as Troupe Director of a Thespian Troupe, or without any affiliation or participation in Thespians. Visit schooltheatre.org for more information.
